Yesterday I really didn’t want to talk/write which was likely affected by the fact that I was suffering photographer block and didn’t like anything I did. Hence, I only published one photo and didn’t bother submitting to the food porn sites. Doing this blog is a real stretch for me because while I have 40 unpublished ideas, it’s hard to maintain photographic and writing creativity while focusing on cocktails.

After publishing yesterday’s cocktail, I remembered that I wanted to participate in the indoor gardening contest at Instructables and had a project lined up but not yet photographed or written, so I pulled out my gear and got to it. Afterwards, I felt a bit more chipper and less doom-and-gloom.

My suspicion is that I’ll need to expand a bit and go with a theme of cocktail parties which opens up a few different outlets and might be easier to continue blogging every day without the fear of having to come up with a unique way to style and photograph a glass of liquid. I’m going to still try to do it, and I’m certainly not throwing in the towel – I just need a bit of variety to change things up a bit. Hopefully, going with a cocktail party theme makes sense with everything I’ve published so far.

Back on topic…

Like I said I have loads of inspiration for cocktails, and today’s cocktail was inspired by Stephanie Powers and her Orange Coconut Sticky Rice. I tried to maintain the color and added soy milk to mimic the nuttiness of rice rather than using milk, and it came out tasting amazing!

Recipe:

In a 12 oz glass filled with crushed ice, pour 1 oz triple sec and 1 oz coconut rum.

Top with soy milk.

Garnish with an orange twist and serve with a straw.

  1. I’m so glad I could inspire you! I’m excited to try this one. I know what you mean about photography being the barrier to posting new recipes. I have about 20 recipes in my draft folder just waiting for me to make again and photograph so I can post the recipe. I went to a thrift shop last week and found some fun new props that helped me be more excited about shooting a few dishes. Maybe you could do some lifestyle type shots with people drinking your cocktails? Or some more shots of the process (shakers being shaken, spoons, ice, bottles of alcohol, pouring action shots, etc)?

    • Thank you for the inspiration!

Woe is me – I’m a one woman team, mostly because I generally make, photograph, edit, write, and publish in the mornings when no one’s available and willing to have cocktails at 10 am, but I really should do something on the weekends and get some people shots. And I should do some more action shots as I’ve only done one so far, and I should boost my prop selection. Lots of things I should be doing. Like cleaning the fridge. 😛

      • I’m a one woman team too. It’s a lot of work! I try to do my photos in the early afternoons when the light is best and hubby is at work not eating my props. This means dinner is done at 3 in the winter time and it has to be reheated for our actual dinner time of 5:30. I’d totally come drink cocktails at 10 am. 🙂 We could make our own party of drinks at 10 and I’ll serve dinner at 2.
