Coffee Caramel Buzz

To be honest, I’m not a very big fan of coffee which might be a bit surprising since I worked at Starbucks for 3 years, and while I worked there, I did enjoy a good number of iced Americanos.

Ok, I guess coffee’s all right – I just don’t pine for it like many people do.

One summer I worked full-time at Starbucks but couldn’t get all the hours I needed at my store which meant I had to pick up shifts elsewhere. Whatever shift, whatever store, I was there. I’d close one store and open another, and once I worked a triple. During that summer, I started dating my husband and frequently crashed at his apartment.

One morning, he asked me, “Hanna, what’s a coolatta?” Feeling the blood lust, I yelled, “IT’S A SHITTY DUNKIN DONUTS DRINK!” He looked extremely confused and informed me that I was talking in my sleep, and very quietly, he heard me say, “Coo-, Coo-, Coolatta.”

Starbucks had decidedly consumed my entire existence and was infiltrating my dreams, and why Coolatta? Because a lot of customers asked me for one. It’s completely weird that I got so angry, and my only explanation is that tiny little things start to grate on your nerves if you’re exposed to them often enough. To be honest, Coolattas are actually pretty tasty.

Anyway, back on topic…

Inspired by Ben and Jerry’s Coffee Caramel Buzz, I made this drink, and it’s very much like eating ice cream laced with booze.  I imagine this would be a great after-dinner treat in lieu of coffee, dessert, and digestif.  It’s a three-for!

And it’ll make you drunk and hyper!

Don’t judge me!

Recipe:

In a 12-16 oz glass filled with ice, pour 2 oz fresh Espresso and 1½ oz Butterscotch Schnapps.

Top with more ice and then Irish Cream.

Serve with a straw.
