Bloody Pils

I never really got to know my grandmother all that well growing up 500 miles away, and so I’m quite enamored with the often funny memories people tell me about her.

For instance, she was scared of going into the cellar by herself and would often make one of her children escort her for company. I was similarly afraid of my parents’ basement, and if my nephew (7 years my junior) was around, I would make him come with me. When asked what I hoped to accomplish in making him come with me when I was scared, I informed everyone that if monsters attacked I could outrun him and they’d eat him before me.

I’m proud to say that I’ve not made my nephew (soon to pass his CPA exams) escort me to the basement in over a year.

Apparently, my grandmother also liked to mix beer with bloody mary mix, and so inspired by her and the callous art of self-preservation, I made this drink because everyone needs a little breakfast to cure a hangover.

Recipe:

Pour a 12 oz pilsner into a pint glass and top with bloody mary mix (or V8).

Garnish with a lemon wedge and a stalk of celery.
